UR-100V

Steel and titanium, blasted finish

The satellite complication carries the minute hand off the scale and replaces it with distance travelled. Astronomical, literally.

The Story

URWERK has never accepted that a hand should sweep a circle. On the UR-100V, three satellites carry the hours around a carousel, each dragging its minute pointer through a 120-degree arc before handing off to the next.

What happens at the end of that arc is the point of this reference. The pointer does not simply disappear. It continues into two further scales: kilometres travelled on the Earth's surface at the equator in twenty minutes, and the distance the Earth covers around the Sun in the same interval. Time as displacement.

The purple treatment turns a technical object into a graphic one. Against the anthracite case, the violet baseplate makes the satellite architecture legible at arm's length, which is not always true of URWERK's darker executions.

This is a watch that fails every conventional legibility test and passes the only one that matters: you look at it more than you need to. That is what people are buying from Geneva's most stubborn independent.

URWERK production runs to a few hundred pieces a year across all references. Wait lists at retail are long. The secondary market is where most of these change hands, and the UR-100 family has become the entry point of choice.

Twenty minutes. 555.55 kilometres. That is the scale it measures.

Reference history

  • The satellite hour display descends from URWERK's UR-103, itself inspired by the 17th-century night clock made for Pope Alexander VII.
  • The UR-100 line launched in 2019 and introduced the kilometre and astronomical scales.
